1. McCain Or Obama: Who Will Reform Vaccine Safety?

San Diego, CA, October 27, 2008 - Parents, scientists and clinicians met this weekend in San Diego to discuss the current state of autism research. Organizations, representing hundreds of thousands of voters nationwide, are calling for Senator McCain to state his policy position on vaccine safety publicly and for Senator Obama to officially clarify comments made earlier this fall by noon October 30, 2008 so voters can make a final informed decision for their candidate of choice.

2. Compensation For Spanish Child Damaged By MMR Vaccine

A six year old child who lost 33% of his hearing after being vaccinated has been given compensation of 35,000 € in Valencia. It happened after the child was administered the triple MMR vaccine in November 2002. The courts have ordered the Regional Generalitat Government to make the compensation payment.

3. Gardasil Grope: Merck Lusts After Adult Women

Never mind that a recent study found its HPV vaccine isn’t cost effective for women over 18 years old and that the FDA earlier this year rejected Gardasil for women between the ages of 27 and 45, Merck continues to push for widespread vaccination for adult women. The hard sell isn’t surprising, after vaccinations fell 33 percent in July and August compared with a year earlier and sales declined 4 percent in this year’s third quarter.

Donald Light and Dr. Rebecca Warburton, Ethical Standards for Healthcare Journal Editors: A Case Report and Recommendations, published in the Harvard Health Policy Review, remains at the center of acrimonious controversy. The perpetrators of academic muzzling--Harvard professors, no less--who abused their editorial authority to suppress information that might be harmful to pharmaceutical industry interests, turned their poison weapons on the victims, accusing them of making a "personal attack."

During his closing remarks at the 2008 Scientific Meeting hosted by the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS), Dr. Daniel Cameron, ILADS president, stressed the need for more comprehensive dialogue between physicians and researchers regarding the prevention of chronic Lyme disease. Neither the IDSA nor the CDC disclose the existence of the ILADS treatment guidelines, leaving many physicians and patients to mistakenly believe there is only one set of treatment guidelines for Lyme disease.

7. New CFS Definition Criticised

People reading this study [Sleep characteristics of persons with chronic fatigue syndrome and non-fatigued controls: results from a population-based study] need to be aware that it uses a new or "unusual" definition of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) so the results may not apply to CFS cohorts as usually defined.
